MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 1st JUNE 2017 IN THOMAS HERD HOUSE, WARD ROAD, DUNDEE.

1.     MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:

 

The minutes of the meeting held on 4th May 2017 were approved.

 

 

2.   MATTERS ARISING:

 

2.1.          (Re matters arising 3.2). It was agreed that we would decide about a logo at a future meeting.

3.2                 On 3/5/17 from Health and Social Care Alliance sending their Weekly Bulletin.

 

3.3                 On 5/5/17 from DVA sending info re Carers Centre Events.

 

3.4                 On 5/5/17 from SDEF sending SDEF Voice Issue 43.

 

3.5                 On 5/5/17 from SDEF sending a survey as it is working with Transport Scotland to undertake research into Accessible Travel.

 

3.6                 On 9/5/17 from DVA sending list of public sessions available for free Heartstart Discovery training.

 

3.7                 On 8/5/17 from Anne Farrow giving the address of the website that showed the logos of other Access Groups, and suggestions of logos for us if we decide to have one. Jan replied saying that not all people with disabilities use a wheelchair so she would prefer the one with Tay Bridge and Carole said that the Tay Bridge picture was nice but she didn’t feel it depicted Dundee Access Group.

3.10              On 11/5/17 from the Dundee Partnership Team sending the seventh issue of their E-Bulletin.

 

3.11              On 11/5/17 from James Davidson, SDEF saying that our website was down because we had let our domain name expire.

 

This has now been corrected and the website is up again.

 

3.12              On 12/5/17 from DVA with an invitation from Dundee City Council and Dundee Voluntary Action to a Community Consultation Event.

 

3.13              On 17/5/17 from SDEF re Volunteers Week June 1-7, 2017.

 

3.14              On 19/5/17 via Scott Mands from the Scottish Government who are looking for people who have experience of using Social Security benefits PIP / DLA/ SDA / Careers Allowance etc to advise on the Scottish Government on benefits policy.

 

3.15              On 26/5/17 from Celebrate Age Network with their Spring Newsletter and Invitation to General Electing Hustings Meeting on 30th May organised by Dundee Pensioners Forum.

 

 

4.     A.O.C.B.

 

4.1            At a Polio Fellowship meeting Erik had met one person unhappy that two parking places in Gray Street, Broughy Ferry had been removed and another unhappy that the same thing had happened in West Henderson Wynd. Erik will pass his information on to Steve Emmonds, Parking Leader, for comment.

 

4.2            Carole has had bad experiences with rail journeys recently. Firstly, when she tried to book 1st Class seats for a trip to London with her family she was informed that none were available. However, she later discovered that such seats had been available. On making further enquiries she was told that wheelchair users can’t travel 1st class.  She has complained about this to Patrick Nyamurundira and awaits a reply.

 

4.3            Carole said that this weekend Westfest will be on at Madeleine Green and she has been informed that the area will be fenced off. She has asked about suitable vantage points for wheelchair users and waits a reply.

 

4.4            Dorothy showed us the amended plans for The Regional Performance Centre for Sport in the Caird Park. The plans will be submitted soon for planning approval and it is hoped that work on it will get started at the end of 2017.

 

4.5            Heather brought in a photo of the new scooter that Shopmobility has purchased with the help of our donation.

 

 

 

5.   DATE OF NEXT MEETING.

 

The next meeting of Dundee Access Group will be held at 12.45 in Thomas Herd House, 10 - 12 Ward Road, Dundee, DD1 1LX on 7th September 2017.
